Why practice Qigong? (pronounced kee-gong). Our body has the incredible ability to heal itself, and qigong awakens the natural healer in all of us. A practice of even 15 minutes a day will help you feel increased energy, strength and inner calm. It will also help you to remain fit and healthy throughout your life. There is a good reason why more than 100 million people around the world practice qigong!
Qigong is accessible to everyone, regardless of age or health challenges. My youngest student is 5 and my oldest is 90! Qigong can be practiced both sitting and standing, and even while lying down. The saying is, “It’s not how it looks, it’s how it feels”, meaning that you will truly learn to listen to your body and gradually increase your range of motion. We must move our joints every way every day, and flex the spine in all directions.
Most students feels the affects of qigong practice immediately. The deep breathing alone can increase your sense of relaxation and stress relief. This feeling of tranquility can stay with you throughout your day. Slow, deep breathing combined with gentle, flowing movements will help to harmonize body, mind and spirit.
Some of the benefits of a regular practice include better balance, coordination and posture. You may also find increased mental focus, endurance and faster recovery from injury or illness, as well as improved sleep patterns and less fatigue.
Practicing even 15 minutes per day can also help to slow and even reverse the aging process – a “Fountain of Youth” – and who doesn’t want to live a longer, healthier life?
